A Prayer for Sisterhood
Each one of us enters the Church as a unique, unrepeatable, beloved daughter of the Father.
We find our individuality through family and friends, growing into our role as sister.
As we journey into early adulthood and begin discerning our vocation, we become aware of our role as bride—manifested first through our union with Christ as Bridegroom, and then potentially with a spouse in marriage.
We then recognize our maternal hearts for all those God has gifted us, through mentorship, community, physical motherhood, and/or spiritual motherhood.
These relational identities can be beautiful fuel for our prayer, but they can have equally devastating effects if wounded through relationships, experiences, or shame.
If you’re struggling to see your sisterhood in this season, I hope this prayer is a moment of encounter with the Lord; let Him speak His truth over you.

Come Holy Spirit; come Lord Jesus; come Heavenly Father.
I am a treasured sister of Jesus.
I am the sister of earthly siblings, whom God gifted with my friendship.
I am a sister in Christ to my friends—coworkers, colleagues, fellow students, and community members.
Jesus, help me to see myself with Your eyes. Grant me the wisdom to see my soul as You see it.
In times of joy, help me rejoice with You—like a girl running to her best friend with exciting news. When I see a blessing in my life, may You be the first Person I celebrate with.
In times of sorrow, help me seek Your consoling Heart—like a girl seeking comfort from her older brother when she’s hurt, sad, or confused. When things don’t go as I expect, may You be the first Person I seek consul from.
In times of gratitude, help me thank You. You walk intentionally with me through all the good, beautiful, and lovely aspects of my life. Help me to honor Your wholesome, brotherly care.
In times of frustration, help me to be open and honest with You. You faithfully do the will of the Father, and it’s far greater than my understanding. Help me to earnestly question Your salvific mission in reverent curiosity, while opening my heart to the truth You lovingly share.
Jesus, I am the sister of many on Earth, and potentially many in Eternity. Give me the wisdom to see where my individuality has been honored in sisterhood, and where my unique personhood may have been restricted. Grant me healing for the areas that are wounded, and thanksgiving for the areas that are honored.
In all things, and in all times, help me to feel treasured by You as Brother. May I grow closer to You every day of my life, through whatever triumphs, trials, falls, and victories I may encounter.
I am a beloved daughter; a treasured sister; a precious bride; a nurturing mother. Jesus, please speak into these places of my heart, especially the barren, aching, or dry areas.
Speak Your love and truth over me—I surrender myself fully to You.
Amen.
